The mission of Outreach House is to provide gracious living for seniors, in an affordable and attractive setting that enhances independence and supports community involvement.
Outreach House is a non-profit, private pay, residentail care community for nine older adults who wish to live in a smoke free environment that is small, like home, safe, supportive, and affordable.
Outreach House was purchased, renovated and outfitted with funds raised from individuals, foundations, churches, businesses and civic organizations.
The residence, which was at one time a small inn, is located at 11 South Park Street in Hanover, just a few blocks from Main Street. Overlooking the Dartmouth campus, it is close to sports, educational, and shopping facilities and the new senior/community center.
Residents are expected to be ambulatory and relatively active, requiring only modest, if any, assistance with daily living routines. Outreach House is not a nursing home and does not provide that level of care. The goal for all residents is maintenance of independence, continuation of community activity, and congenial and companionable living.
The bedrooms are private and include private half-baths or shared full baths. All have telephone and TV cable connections, individual thermostats, and emergency call bells. Second floor rooms are accessible by both stairs and elevator. Core services include family-style meals, housekeeping, laundry and daily living assistance as needed. We have an in-house beauty salon operated by a licensed beautician.
Shared Testimonials: "The cozy environment, the home-cooked meals, the good humor and, above all, the kindness and true caring... all these reasons are why we don't worry about Gram anymore." Marcie Bartlett, granddaughter of former resident.
"The personal, homelike care provided at Outreach is unique in the Upper Valley. (Residents and families are treated with true kindness; their personhood is valued. Warm, caring staff attend carefully to both daily needs and subtle changes that might warrant further medical attention.) I wish all of my frail elders could live at Outreach House." Barbara Lazar, MD
Outreach House is licensed by the State of New Hampshire as a residential care facility. This licensure establishes that there will be trained staff and 24-hour oversight provided to the people who live here.
Outreach House operates under the direction of a voluntary Board with a fulltime Administrator, Susan Shinn.
