It was a great 38 year run and now its time to move on to a new life - one without the most fantastic seacoast restaurant that ever existed in New Hampshire. As we went through our last weekend many tears were shed, stories told and memories brought to life. Over the years Saunders touched so many lives in so many ways - first dates, engagements, weddings, memorial services, holiday gatherings and summer jobs that became lifetime friendships. It will all be missed, but the memories will live on.
Now its time for us to part with 38 years of collected stuff. The Ivory Grand Piano, Small wares, collectibles, kitchen equipment, dishes, glassware, tables, chairs, and even the bricks from the deck. The sale will continue almost daily until September 29. There are some special items that are being offered through a silent auction which will close at noon on Sunday, Sept. 19 with a reserve placed on each of these items and depending on the bids, their availablilty may continue beyoud Sunday.
As a side note, owner Doug Zechel has begun a writing career under the name KD Mason. His first two murder mysteries - HARBOR ICE and CHANGING TIDES are out and available at the restaurant until September 29. Each book is locally set at Rye Harbor in a fictional restaurant suspicially like Saunders. (Go figure?) All copies sold will be personally signed by KD Mason and will continue to be available on his web site www.kdmason.com. as well as on Amazon and in bookstores everywhere.
Please come down and stop by, say Hi, look around, and maybe even buy a treasure.
The Great Saunders Sell-Off is in progress and will continue almost daily until Wednesday, September 29, 2010. See events for details.
• Signed copies of Harbor Ice, by local author KD Mason, Rye's other author, are available at the restaurant, through his website - www.kdmason.com., or in your favorite bookstore as well as Amazon.com. His new Book - Changing Tides has just been delivered in a pre-release edition and is for sale exclusively at Saunders.
