Welcome to Kenzoku Martial Arts Center. In Japanese, "Kenzoku"means "family," and family is at the heart of everything we do here. Not only do we promote a feeling of family within the dojo, but we seek to promote healthy families outside the dojo through the development of our students as people, not merely in body, but in mind and spirit as well. The needs of our families also influence our offerings here. Our programs range from rigorous martial arts programs for adults and confidence building martial arts programs for children to Tai Chi and Shugendo Yoga programs for absolutely anyone.
Kenzoku Martial Arts Center is not a newcomer to Keene, in fact, weve been here for over 16 years. We are the direct descendant of the Wilmott Martial Arts Center, run by Rick Wilmott, Renshi, who continues to act as a special advisor to our school and a master instructor. Wilmott Renshi has given us a rich heritage of martial knowledge and wisdom as well as a firm foundation upon which to build this latest in carnation of our school.
Dojo owner and head instructor, Sensei Tobey Bigelow has been training in the martial arts for over eleven years. He began his Leadership Training when he was 15 years old, and he has earned his Black Belt in3 different martial arts. Sensei Bigelow is considered by his seniors to be one of the best instructors in the country, while placing an emphasis on helping his students and their families learn together.
Each of these instructors is also a dedicated student with many years experience in this and other arts. Additionally, various black belt level students and black belt candidates also assist in teaching junior students both as part of their training and as part of their duties and responsibilities as sempai (seniors) to their kohai (juniors).
