Celebrating our 71st anniversary! 1939-2010
Exeter Day School, established in 1936 and incorporated in 1939, is a non-profit school for 3-6 year olds. It is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of nine parents of the children. The school has an ideal location adjacent to the Phillips Exeter Academy fields with woods, nature trails, a playground and spacious open fields for the children to use and enjoy.
The philosophy of the Day School reflects the belief that the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social areas of development are integrated in the effort to help the child become a whole person. A healthy blending of these three areas will enable the child to face bigger challenges with ease and intelligence. The school encourages the child to develop and keep with him or her enjoyment of learning, expressed through constant curiosity and the knowledge and appreciation of his or her own talents as well as those of others. Through the disciplines of self-control, listening habits, the ability to follow directions, patience and the satisfaction of accomplishment, the child should be able to approach life with the confidence and feeling of self worth. Recognizing the fact that each child develops at a different pace, the school believes in adapting to the needs of the individual child.

“My son is in Joetta Girard's Pre-K class and I just want to say what a great experience he has had so far. I have spent the last 2 years of his preschool experience dropping him off at school and having him whine, cry, cling, hide or some combination thereof almost every day. I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to have him look forward to going to school and to be genuinely disappointed that there is no school tomorrow. Thank you for making Exeter Day such a special place for him to spend his days. You have made our mornings a delight and I can't thank you enough for that!”
- Warm regards, Jennifer D.
